How to Modify the Tick in a Checkbox in Word

Microsoft Word provides a range of features, including Form Controls, which are objects used to handle data in a spreadsheet. One example of a Form Control is a check box, which can be used to mark items off a list. However, many users are unaware that they can change the tick symbol in the check box to an X or any other symbol of their choice.

To change the tick symbol in a check box in Word, follow these steps:

1. Open Microsoft Word.

2. Go to the Developer tab and click on the check box button.

3. Draw the check box on your Word document.

4. Click on the check box and then click on the Properties button.

5. In the adjacent Checked symbol section, click on the Change button.

6. Search for the X symbol or any other symbol you prefer, and then click OK for both dialog boxes.

7. The tick symbol in the check box will now be changed to the selected symbol.

To lock a checkbox in Microsoft Word, follow these steps:

1. Select the check box.

2. Go to the Developer tab and click on the Properties button.

3. In the Content Control Properties dialog box, check the box for “Contents cannot be Edited” under the Locking section.

4. Click OK.

5. Now, when you try to click on the check box, you will notice that it cannot be edited.

If you are unable to remove a content control in Microsoft Word, it may be because the “Content Control cannot be deleted” option is enabled. To disable this option, follow these steps:

1. Select the check box.

2. Go to the Developer tab and click on the Properties button.

3. In the Content Control Properties dialog box, uncheck the box for “Content Control cannot be deleted” under the Locking section.

4. Click OK.

By following these instructions, you should now be able to change the tick symbol in a check box, lock a checkbox, and remove content control in Microsoft Word.
