Remote Desktop session fails to capture mouse

If you encounter the error message “Mouse not captured in Remote Desktop session” while using an old version of Hyper-V, or even a newer version, there are several solutions you can try to troubleshoot the issue. These include inserting the Integration Services Setup Disk, turning on Enhanced Session mode, enabling Data Exchange in Hyper-V Manager, starting the Hyper-V Data Exchange Service, and reinstalling the mouse driver.

For older versions of Hyper-V, you will need to insert the Integration Services Setup Disk, which is the ISO of the setup file. For newer versions, this step is unnecessary. Enhanced Session mode must be turned on, and both server and user options must be enabled. Data Exchange must also be enabled in Hyper-V Manager, and the Hyper-V Data Exchange Service must be started. Finally, if your mouse driver is outdated or missing, reinstall it to ensure proper functionality.

If your mouse is not showing in RDP or Remote Desktop session, it may be due to a corrupt driver. Reinstall or update the driver before attempting other solutions. To capture mouse input in Hyper-V, click on the virtual machine screen or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Left arrow to release a stuck mouse.
