How To Report An Article On Facebook For Its Content

Facebook, and the content that’s shared on it has a problem. It doesn’t just border around fake news but also click-bait titles. Some pages use images  and titles that will get a reaction out of readers knowing full well that most people might not read the full article. There’s always been a way to report spam on Facebook. You can report posts but that’s not enough given how pages now manipulate news. To combat this, there’s a new way to report an article on Facebook. So far, we’ve only seen it appear on the smartphone apps but it should make it to the web version soon.

On Faeebook web, you can still see the old options for reporting a post. They are; It’s annoying or not interesting, I think it shouldn’t be on Facebook, and It’s spam.

The new options to report an article on Facebook ask if it contains a particular type of content. You will see it on your phone and often times, Facebook will ask you for feedback on the content of an article.

Obviously, Facebook won’t ask you for feedback on all posts. The option only appears automatically when Facebook detects something about a post might be off. Of course that doesn’t mean you can’t report the contents of the article. Tap the more options button and select the ‘Give feedback on this post’ option from the menu. You will see options to report a post for nudity or sex acts, violence, harassment, suicide or self-injury, spam or scam, unauthorized sale, and hate speech.

Reporting the contents of an article is not the same as reporting it to Facebook for review. Once you report the contents of an article, you then have the option to submit it to Facebook for review. Additionally, you’re also given the option to block the page that’s posting it, or to hide all content from the page.

If you have the time, you should report the contents of a post whenever Facebook asks you to. The report doesn’t necessarily have to highlight a problem with the article. When Facebook asks for feedback, it includes a ‘Nothing’s wrong’ option as well. This can help Facebook identify which pages aren’t generating spam posts and can help legitimate content producers avoid being falsely flagged. By giving feedback on posts, you also help Facebook’s algorithm learn to identify harmful content better. It’s one of the few good things that you can do while using Facebook.
